History - How our passion started.
In
1977, grandfather Gennaro Amendola, called
“Scirocco “by all, because of his passion
for cooking, his smile and his warm welcome
to all, opened the Scirocco restaurant with
his wife Maria and their 10 children.
In those days, the restaurant could only be
reached on foot or typically by donkey,
because the main roa wasn’t built until
1982.
Grandfather Scirocco believed in his dream!
Over the years, he has hosted numerous
clients and delighted their palates with his
exquisite and delicious dishes. In 2006,
grandfather Scirocco passed away and now his
passion is continued by Grandmother Maria (who
prepares delicious fresh pasta every day) by
her eldest son Chef Pasquale and her
grandchildren.
The tradition and authenticity “of the
flavours of the past”, such as fresh pasta,
tomatoes, extra virgin olive oil, lemons,
mozzarella, fresh fish and meat from the
Lattari mountains, are cooked with respect
for the coastal tradition.
The Scirocco restaurant is a restaurant not
be missed for those who want to spend a
romantic but fun evening, enjoy a
breathtaking view and be pampered and feel
part of this family.
Montepertuso
The name comes from the extraordinary
natural opening in the mountain tht is
highly visible from both sides and in it’ s
elegance, it conveys the wonder and
amazement of those who are fortunate enough
to take a look. Montepertuso overlooks
Positano (3Km away) from the top and stands
at the foot of the Lattari mountains, and
walking along the road, you can admire the
beautiful view. Here, nothing short of
magical, in 1977, Gennaro Amendola (called
Scirocco) with his wife and 10 children
inaugurated the restaurant.
It was the first restaurant in this
beautiful village at the time, which you
could only reach by foot because the road
was not completed until about 5 years later.
Since then, “Scirocco” has hosted countless
customers and has delighted their palates
with his delicious dishes.
The legend of MONTEPERTUSO
The tradition
of the origin of this village in Positano is
attributed to a famous legend. In the 6 th
century, the village was a forest where the
villagers lived in the mountains and ate
wild game. One night they were all deafened
by a loud thunder and, looking towards the
mountain, they saw a white light with a
central image. A young girl was wrapped in
this supernatural light and with a maternal
voice projected by the light, said:”Have no
fear, the cursed devil has left and his
efforts to destroy this mountain are over,
because the mountain has destroy his evil
spirit”. The remains of his body, in the
shape of a snake, were found on the opposite
side of the mountain. “Come with me and
accompany me to the hill of the Holy forest
where we will stay forever”. Descending the
mountain, everyone was illuminated with the
spirit light and it was taken as a sign from
God and made their home. Even today, you can
see the outline of the rock crushing the
cursed serpent, so perfect that it would be
difficult for a man’s hand to do the same.
The mountain was punctured by the Madonna’s
index finger, still highly visible today. On
this holy hill of the forest (forest no
longer) is a beautiful olive grove, and
there stands the church of the S.Maria delle
Grazie. |
